Summer Learning Journey – Comic Quest

For my summer learning journey we have made an animation story about (Doing the right thing).

Our story is about not making bad decisions and making good deeds and that’s what me and my partner comic slide about, it’s good to do things out of kindness and making the right choices because you wouldn’t like it you were in their shoes.

Superhero – Kick Start

For this summer learning journey kick start activity was to create your own ideal superhero, my superhero is Sela her story is how she went through a unfornate situation at a young age. As she gets older she takes after her parents footsteps and becomes a comapassinate cheif.  Her powers are to bring back plants and help animals to life becuase how the villagers were sad after the passing of the cheifs/Sela parents.

I enjoyed this activity becuase I get to create an own idea of my superhero and get use my own creative ideas,my superhero is indpendent also shows how far she has come.

Diya Creating

LI: To follow the instructions to make your own origami diya (diva lamp).

The photo above shows my origami diya (diva lamp). Our first challenge was to watch the video that shows how to fold an origami diya (diva lamp). Before we could start we needed to use a ruler to measure a 20cm square piece of paper to make our own origami square. I found this activity challenging because it was hard to keep up the folding and trying to keep in place to make it look excactly as the image.

I found this activity interesting because I had fun learning about how to make my own origami diya ( diva lamp) to celebrate Diwali.

Phares dans la Tempete, la Jument

LI: To use your smart searching skills to find the story behind this picture

Our challenge was to write create a DLO that shows where this lighthouse is and what the story is behind the image. We found out that the Phares dans la Tempete, la Jument is a lighthouse in France it is very well known.

I found this activity interesting because we are telling about what happend from this image and I find it shocking that there was even a person at the lighthouse while big waves crashing against the lighthouse.

My Special Taonga

LI: To structure and write an explanation

Our challenge was to write an explanation to tell others about something we value as a special taonga. Our challenge was to make sure what we had written made sense and each idea was explored in a paragraph. My taonga is my Tongan vesa I value this as a toanga because this got carried down by family and I feel special to have this because of how it’s journey came along because this is something that repersents my culture and family.

I found this activity interesting because we all get write about our special Taonga that we have and talk about it to others talking about it’s history behind and why we value this specail Taonga.

These Shoes have a story to tell

LI: To use the 5 senses and personification to help us paint a picture with words. To understand that personification is to give an inanimate object human qualities

Our challenge was to co construct a text using personification and the senses to describe the story behind the shoes in this image. We sat back to back and weren’t able to talk… Half way through Mrs Anderson challenged us to include a rhetorical question and a simile or metaphor…

Once we had completed this part of the challenge we joined together with another group to share our writing and make sure what we had written made sense.

After that was to check if used all punctuations and used it as points,we marked eachothers how many punctuations there is. This was a fun challenge to do because if our partner missed a punctuations meant we could take a point off.

I found this activity fun and challenging because it was hard to sit back to back without any communication also trying to finish off each other sentences although this was a fun challenge to do with my partner we got to try to match each others sentence.

What happened down the stairs?

LI: To understand the 5 senses can be used to strengthen a description

Our challenge was to co construct a text using the olfactory, auditory, gustatorial, visual and kinethetic senses to describe the story behind the shoes in this image. This time we were able to speak and sat facing our partners.

After we had finished writing we joined in with another group to share our text and helped each other that our writing were correctly done. We also disscused with each other if our writing made sense also checking with each other if we had our language features in our text.

I found this activity fun because me and my partner got to discuss with each other about our ideas and we used wordhippo to find more strong words for our writing.

Equipment & Property

LI: Students will learn how to look after equipment and property.

This week for PB4L we created a contract discussing about your Properties and belongings of why they are important and why they need to looked after. This contract is also about looking after propperties and equipments that don’t belong to you, also showing respect for the person who has given it to you because they gave you their trust into playing or looking after their equipement. This is important because it’s good to show other’s that they can fully trust you having their equipment and also getting your item back with great care just as exactly how you have given them.

I found this activity enjoyable because this also gives me an a reminder that sometime’s looking after somones equipment could have a impact on you so that’s why we should take great care and respect other’s properties.

Something Happend Here…

LI: Learning about New Zealand history

LS2 has been learning and discovering about all places in New Zealand about the history behind it. My partner and I chose one of the 36 cards and we chose to learn the history behind Ahi Ka. It took place in Bastion Point and it’s a special place with lots of history behind it. Bastion Point was where Michael Joseph Savage’s body was buried, the Government took away Ngati Whatua land, so Te Puea led a petition to restore their land back and the Crown decided to get rid of people who lived in Okahu Bay by burning it down, when all the houses were burned down the only building was standing was the Chapel and the Cemetery.

We find this activity interesting because we have been learning the History of the places in Aotearoa.
